Music & Me

Hey everyone! My name is Ariel, and I am a freshman! I also play volleyball here at Converse! I have been playing volleyball since I was 11 and have fell in love with the sport ever since! My twin sister, Ariana, also plays volleyball and we have done everything together!

When I was in 6th grade I decided to sign up for band. I wanted try it since I love music and wanted to see if I would like it! So, my band teacher has everyone play different instruments, such as, the trumpet, clarinet, flute, and more! They gave each person directions on how to play each of the instruments and depending on how well we did, they assigned us to an instrument. The instructor assigned me to the clarinet! I loved the clarinet and became very good at playing it! Though, in 8th grade I decided to quit band because I wanted to focus on volleyball. Sometimes I wish I still knew how to play the clarinet, but maybe I will get back into it after college!

Right now, Jonathan McReynolds is one of my favorite artists! He is a grammy-winning American gospel musician. He made his first debut in 2012 with the release of Life Music. Since then, he has had two No. 1 Billboard Gospel Albums, fifteen Stellar Awards, four GMA Dove Awards, and five Grammy Award nominations and a win in 2021!

When I was younger I did praise dance at my church! I actually danced to once of his songs called Make Room. This song is one of my favorite songs I have danced to because the lyrics are so meaningful and the choreography went so well with the song.

Music that is deeply meaningful to me is gospel music. I was grown up in a christian household and have always listened to gospel music growing up. Naomi Raine, Maverick City Music, Anthony Brown, and Johnathan McReynolds are some of the artists that I listen to. Though, my favorite song right now is Free at Last by Tonio Armani. I love the upbeat tempo and the lyrics of this song. It reminds me of how God has changed my life and how he has given me another chance.

A genre of music I don't like or connect with is heavy metal. I hate how loud it is and how aggressive it sounds. It is just so intense and it feels like my ear drum is gonna burst every time I listen to it. It's such an angry genre of music that doesn't relate to me at all.

  1. I really liked your first song because worship music is my favorite genre of music! I also love his song make room that you said you danced to! I agree with you about heavy metal I just do not jive with it! I think we have a very similar music taste and I think thats really cool!

  2. I can understand what you mean by you feel like your eardrums will burst everytime you listen to heavy metal music. Some of the songs are like that. Not every song in this genre is angry. There is only one song off the top of my head that fits this. It's "When the Season Change" by Five Finger Death Punch. The sing wrote is song to his children for his children. It's about how he will always love them no matter what happens in life.
